Hajj and Umrah Medical & Vaccination Services in Singapore

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has introduced medical health requirements to safeguard the well-being of all pilgrims.

For Hajj pilgrims, a new requirement is a Hajj Medical Assessment, which includes a Medical Health Certificate. For all Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, there are three mandatory vaccinations. Read on to understand these requirements in detail.

Hajj Requirements

Hajj is a physically demanding journey that involves long walks, high temperatures, and large crowds. These requirements help ensure that applicants are medically fit to perform the rituals safely, while also protecting the well-being of others in Makkah and Madinah.

All applicants must be in good health, free from any of the disqualifying chronic medical conditions, and physically capable of performing the Hajj rituals safely. (https://www.muis.gov.sg/haj/haj2026-faq/ )

It is important to note that applicants with existing common chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol, do not automatically disqualify applicants from performing Hajj if the condition is managed and a medical fitness certification is obtained. If you have such a chronic condition, we want to work closely with you and help get your condition under control.

It is mandatory for every applicant to undergo the Haj Medical Assessment, a medical examination conducted by a registered medical practitioner (doctor) in Singapore. Upon completion of the assessment, the doctor will issue a Medical Health Certificate indicating whether the applicant is Medically Fit or Medically Unfit to perform Hajj.

Mandatory Vaccination for Umrah

MUIS (Islamic Religious Council of Singapore), in line with the Singapore Ministry of Health and Saudi authorities, requires pilgrims travelling for Umrah from Singapore to receive three mandatory vaccinations:

Quadrivalent Meningococcal ACWY vaccine:

This vaccine is compulsory for all pilgrims aged one year and older to protect against meningitis. It must be administered at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia. Proof of vaccination is required for a visa.

Seasonal Influenza (flu) vaccine:

This is a mandatory requirement for all Singapore pilgrims due to the high transmission risk in crowded gatherings. It should be received within 12 months before the travel date.

COVID-19 vaccine:

Pilgrims are required to meet specific COVID-19 vaccination criteria, such as having received an updated dose for the current season, completing the primary series, or having a laboratory-confirmed recovery from infection within a relevant timeframe.

When to Get Vaccinated

You should complete all these vaccinations before flying to Saudi Arabia for Umrah. Ideally, arrange your travel health check-up around 4–6 weeks before departure. That allows time to get any needed follow-up doses and to let your body recover between shots. (For example, if you need two doses of the meningococcal vaccine, schedule them several weeks apart.) At Alami Clinic we can help plan your schedule so that you get multiple vaccines in one visit. Planning early also means you can space them out – for example, you might get meningitis and flu first, then a COVID booster a few weeks later. Minor side effects (like a sore arm or low-grade fever) are common and fade quickly, but build in a buffer so you’re fully ready on travel day. Consider this sample timeline:

Timeline Details
2–3 months before travel: Book a travel consultation. Discuss which vaccines and tests you need, and check that your routine immunizations are current.
6–8 weeks before travel: Get your first set of vaccines (for example, first dose of meningitis, the flu shot, etc.).
4–6 weeks before travel: Complete any booster doses or second shots.
1–2 weeks before travel: Double-check that you have all your vaccine certificates and that you’re healthy and ready for the trip.
